Mrs. Holmgren’s Kindergarten

ABC Activies…..

1. Bring a muffin tin to school and place one letter in each cup (we've been working on "C" this week so most of the cups had the letter "C" in then; the remaining cups had letters they already know). Then take something small they can throw, like pennies or bingo chips, and give each child a small amount (1 to 6). Have the child or children sit on the floor with the tin in front of them. They then take turns tossing one chip at a time into the tin. When it lands in the cup, they have to tell you the letter and the sound. If they're right, the chip stays. If they're wrong, take the chip out and give it back to them to try again later. The first one with no chips left is the winner! The kids love it and will play it again and again!! It's also a game they can play on their own or against you!

2. Cut letters and pictures out of magazines and glue them in an alphabet book.

3. Play letter bingo. Make up a small bingo board with letters on it. Then you either say the letter, sound, or both. If they have it on their board, they mark it with a chip. First to get three-in-a-row wins.

4. Tape die-cut letters around the room (or in my case, on the walls in the hallway). Say a letter or sound and have the children try to find it.  They can try to find as many as they can. The best part is that they can then "hide" the letters for next time.
