Kindergarten October Newsletter Autumn is in the air and the students are excited about our new theme! During the month of October we will be studying apples and pumpkins. The students will learn about how apples and pumpkins are grown, how they change, and the different foods they are made into. They especially enjoy the part where we get to eat the food we make. October 4th – 10th marks the annual Fire Prevention Week. The students will learn about fire safety. We will also discuss the importance of fire alarms, having an escape route, and what to do in the event of a fire. They truly enjoy learning about the equipment a firefighter uses. The students are also enjoying the phonics program. This month the students will start learning their ‘tricky words’, also known as sight words. These are words that cannot be sounded out. Each week the students will learn two new ‘tricky words’. There is a link on the kindergarten website to access a list of the ‘tricky words’ your child will be learning. Please review the ‘tricky words’, as well as the letter sounds, with your child. Every little bit makes a huge difference. Autumn is always a fun time of the year. Discuss with your child how so many things around us are changing. Have fun with it and enjoy spending time with your child outdoors. Thank you, Mrs. Holmgren |
